Art guidelines

Optimize your artwork so it moves through our automated system cleanly. Follow the guidelines below for razor-sharp, on-brand labels every run.

01File formats & the PDF advantage

  • Accepted formats. We gladly accept print-ready artwork in .PDF (our absolute favorite), .PNG, .JPG, and .JPEG.
  • Why vector-based PDFs win. Uploading a high-quality .PDF is the best way to ensure your labels look crisp, clean, and professional — highly recommended over standard image files.
Skip the manual setup. We’ve built a custom PDF preset that automates your export directly from Adobe applications. Grab your copy and check the quick setup steps at the Adobe Export Preset Matrix.

02Sizes, scale & the safety zone

  • Build at 100%. Always build your design assets at exactly 100% scale.
  • 0.0625″ bleed. Add a .0625″ bleed margin to any background elements, colors, or graphics that extend to the edge of the page.
  • Stay inside the safety zone. To ensure critical text or graphics don’t get clipped during production, keep your most important elements nestled securely inside the boundaries shown on our design templates.

03Image resolution

  • Minimum 300 ppi. Any images or rasterized artwork should be set to a minimum of 300 ppi to lock in sharp, high-definition print quality.
  • Native 1200 output. Our printers offer 1200 native resolution output — make sure your art can take advantage of the technology.
Automated safety net. No guessing required — our intelligent proofing engine scans your files and triggers a friendly alert if your images drop below this threshold.

04Color, transparencies & spot vectors

  • Use CMYK natively. All uploaded files should be natively set to the CMYK colorspace. If your project is in RGB, our system will auto-convert — but watch for minor color shifts.
  • Pantone maps supported. PANTONE color maps are fully supported and ready to rock.
  • Expanded-gamut inks. Our printers have an expanded-gamut ink set so we can reproduce a much wider, more vibrant spectrum of color.
  • Don’t mix spot + transparency. To prevent formatting hiccups, don’t mix spot colors and transparency effects on the same layer. Flattening your transparencies isn’t required.

05Typographic outlines & font safety

  • Outline or embed. Convert all text and fonts directly to outlines, or compile your layout into a secure .PDF package to embed them automatically.
  • Non-embedded fonts break. Fonts that aren’t outlined or embedded won’t render properly in the print queue.

06White ink

  • Bring designs to life. You can pull off an incredible array of eye-catching visual effects by combining our advanced white-ink printing with silver or clear substrates.
  • Setup matters. Flawless file setup is key to making these effects pop — be sure to read our complete White Ink Integration Guide before committing your final design.
